Add a new page in the WordPress backend and name it Home (the name does not affect the homepage, but it makes it easier to find later). Next, change the page template to Homepage and click Publish. After publishing, you should see a Homepage Settings box appear underneath the main content box. Your page layout should look something like this:

Once you have created the page as above, navigate to Settings / Reading. Next to the title Front Page Displays, click the A Static Page radio button and select your newly created homepage from the Front Page drop-down box. Click Save Changes.

Now you have successfully installed your homepage! Go back into the page to fill in content, add widgets to the designated homepage sidebars or configure the layout of the homepage in the Theme Options.
